From Your Pastor's Heart - July 5, 2015

Good Morning Family,

Independence Day has always been a favorite time of year for me.  As a child, I always knew it was celebrating the official birth of the United States as a free nation.  The older I get though, the more fragile I realize that freedom and liberty are; and the more courage it is going to take to preserve them.

Is our nation in danger of being conquered by another?  I do not believe it is geopolitically.  I do not believe we are in danger of another nation running over our borders and taking us over by might.  However, I believe the foundations of this nation are in grave danger of being overrun from within.

Abraham Lincoln said, “America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves.”  I stand with Lincoln on this one.  We are seeing this come to fruition in our lifetimes and unless God Almighty intervenes, we will see this nation become something altogether unrecognizable in the next 30 years.  When my children are my age and I am gone, I shudder to think what America could possibly look like.

The internal forces of the progressivism that began in the early part of the previous century are coming together to culminate in mind numbing fashion in the early part of this new century.  We have been saying it for years, but it is time to awaken and I fear the time may be past.  I am afraid we have hit the snooze button one too many times.  I know there will be those that say that those like me are alarmists, but can any truly authentic follower of Jesus Christ say that this country is not in danger from within?

We, as early colonial and American Christians have quoted II Chronicles 7:14 for centuries: If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

Notice the emphasis in these verses is not about convincing the culture regarding morality.  Culture will never reflect godliness until individual hearts are changed by the Gospel.  The imperative in this verse is directed toward God’s people.  Humility, seeking God’s face, and repentance from our ways are the keys to spiritual and national healing.  Is this not what we preach from week to week?  This is the clarion call for all who follow the Lord.  In my heart, I am greatly dismayed at the condition of our country.  But, I can never bring myself to outwardly say, “I surrender.”

This is because, as followers of Jesus, we will never surrender even in the face of ridicule, actual persecution, or threats of any nature.  We, as Christian Americans, do not surrender to the threats of postmodernism, atheism, moral relativism, Islamic Sharia law, or any other internal or external threat.  The Word of God is our sword and The Lord is our shield.

As always, my prayer is that we would all Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the Word of truth.”    II Timothy 2:15.

Humbly Yours,

Bro Steve

From Your Pastor's Heart - June 28, 2015

Good Morning Family,

As I write this, we have just been handed down a “decision” by the Supreme Court of the United States that homosexual marriage shall be the law of the land in all fifty states.  Those five justices holding the wrong view were appointed by both Republican and Democratic Administrations, just for the record.  In actuality, the Supreme Court can say whatever it wants, but God is the Supreme Judge over any and all earthly courts.

His Word and ruling has been declared on this issue from the Garden of Eden and remains in effect still today.  A majority of justices on our so-called Supreme Court have shaken their fists in the face of God and so has a large portion of Americans on this issue.  While they shake their fists, we must hold up Scripture.

If you follow these things, you are aware that this is going to have far ranging ripple effects for Christian schools, businesses, churches, and pastors.  If you do not, you had better start.  Our country radically changed Friday morning.  We must continue to pray for our nation, just as we have before this “decision”.  We must also become more active than ever before in our governmental process.  Congress makes law and that is what they should do in response to this act by the Court to reaffirm the Biblical definition of marriage.

It is so clear in our system of checks and balances, that the Judicial branch does not make law, the Legislative branch does.  Yet, this is exactly what happened Friday.  The Court has acted in conjunction with efforts from the Executive branch (the Obama administration) and tyrannically created Federal law overreaching the authority of the individual states.   This is a nation of individual states, the United States.  Those leading in the president’s administration and the courts have grossly overreached and place our nation of states in an even more perilous position before The Almighty.

Folks, we as a church, have some work to do in the coming months as we make some final votes for placement of new faces on a few committees that will shape policy and put into place how we move forward in this even more hostile environment.  Make no mistake, with a Supreme Court decision to now back them up, the forces of the homosexual movement and the progressive liberals will test this new power to its limits in coming months and years to push against the church and Christian based organizations.  We must be prepared for the teachings of the Word of God on this subject to be declared “hate speech” and persecution or prosecution could follow up.

No matter what man may say, God is still on the throne and is powerful enough to use His people and His Holy Spirit to change lives and hearts in the midst of a wicked and perverse generation.  I am not giving up on God’s power to save the individual from sin nor His power to save our nation!  Each time the Supreme Court sits to hear cases, as the justices enter, the marshal of the court declares, “God save the United States and this Honorable Court!"  I concur.

As always, my prayer is that we would all Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the Word of truth.”    II Timothy 2:15.

Humbly Yours,

Bro Steve

From Your Pastor's Heart - June 14, 2015

Good Morning Family,

Needless to say, you have noticed Robin, Holly, and I are not in attendance this morning.  We are in St. Louis attending a family reunion today.  This is on Robin’s dad’s side of the family from which she lost her cousin Kim a month or so ago.  While at the memorial service, the family thought it would be a good idea to get together and they chose this weekend and they all live in St. Louis.  We want to thank you for understanding our need to be away today.

I am so glad that Dale Keel has graciously stepped in for me this morning and this evening.  I am so appreciative of him, not just for filling in, but for being there for me as a brother, fellow pastor, and friend.  I wish I were there with you all today to sit under his preaching.  You are going to be blessed abundantly!!!  Go get’em, Dale!

Late tonight(Sunday) after I arrive back in Cape Fair, our sister church Oak Tree Church from Lee’s Summit, Missouri and their youth group will arrive and we will be setting up for our joint 2015 Youth Conference, “Who Am I?  My Identity in Christ”.

Looking forward to a great week with our students and theirs as we do ministry together, work together, and fellowship together.  Pastor Dave Cole will be leading the nightly sessions and Robin and I will be joining with their worship band for nightly times of worship and praise.  During the week, we will be working on a few projects around here as well as taking the students swimming one day and to Silver Dollar City another.

The students and youth staff of Oak Tree will be staying in our facilities and our students will be taken home each night to sleep and picked up the next morning.  I am especially thankful for some of our adults who have stepped up to be a part of this conference to build more of Christ into the lives of students.

As always, my prayer is that we would all Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the Word of truth.”    II Timothy 2:15.

From Your Pastor's Heart - June 21, 2015

Good Morning Family,

It is good to be back home.  We arrived back in Cape Fair last Sunday night at about 8:30 and hit the ground running with Youth Camp 2015!  Our guests were the leaders and students from Oak Tree Church in Lee’s Summit, Missouri.  There were a total of about 30 students and leaders in attendance all week and much ministry was accomplished in teaching and in labor.

I want to especially thank Richard Cain and Gordon Sturgeon for their tireless work on Monday and Tuesday this week as they guided students through many building and grounds related tasks.  Monday was a full day of work and Tuesday was spent finishing up and then the students took in Table Rock Lake as they swam that afternoon.

Also, THANKS go out to Connie Sturgeon for her help in the kitchen this week in meal prep for the students; a big job for a lady with a big heart for kids.

Our students shared that they greatly enjoyed the week of camp and getting to know other students from a sister church.  Many new friends were made and commitments to seeking the Lord were formed in their hearts as they were taught.

I also want to again thank Dale Keel for stepping into my place last Sunday and taking you all into the Word of God.  I know you were in great hands.

Men, today I hope to challenge all of us as not only fathers, but men and young men, whether you are a father or not.  Fatherhood and manhood in Christ are in a perplexing state at this point in history and my prayer is that we will allow the Word and godly examples lead us as we become the examples we need to be.

As always, my prayer is that we would all Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”    II Timothy 2:15.

Humbly Yours,

Bro Steve

From Your Pastor's Heart - June 7, 2015

Good Morning Family,

It is hard to believe the summer months have begun!  Kid’s Camp 2015 (which I have more to say about below) is already under our belt and we have a full summer ahead as we press on “toward the goal”!  As busy as things may get, we need to fix our eyes on Jesus.  It is through His power and for His glory that we accomplish anything in ministry here.  As we continue to reach out and spread His Gospel among those of Cape Fair and the surrounding area, we pray for those who will hear the Gospel to be sensitive to its life changing and destiny altering message.

I would like to flesh out a couple of things that are in the bulletin.  First off, a major date change:  The Community-wide Outreach Event that was scheduled for June 13 has been moved from the weekend of the Eagle’s Pig Races to coincide with our Church-wide Rummage Sale on the 4th of July. After speaking with a few people in the last few days about my thoughts on making those two events more targeted and effective for the church ministries, I have combined the two events to occur on perhaps one of the weekends that is most highly celebrated by the area folks and attended by visitors to the lake alike.

There is the major fireworks display in the evening of the 3rd down at the marina and then we will be out on the 4th right along the highway in our front church lawn giving away ice cream cones, bottled water, information about the church, and Gospel tracts along with a verbal witness as the Lord may provide opportunity to anyone who stops in.  Along with that, we will have a rummage sale going on at the same time.  More information to follow next week about collection of items for the sale.  But, in the meantime, be looking at how the Lord would have you provide or help out in this event.  So, to recap, July 4th Church Wide Rummage Sale with Free Ice Cream and Bottled Water .

We also have a few important items coming up at our next Business meeting on July 12th.  We were going to bring a couple of these items before then, but I feel it is best we accomplish all of them at once at our regularly scheduled meeting one month from now.  Two of these, in particular, are the addition of a new chairperson to our By-laws Ad-hoc Committee and the implementation of a new Long Range Planning Committee.  Both of these things are crucial to moving ahead with the Lord as a church.

Finally, but not least, I want to thank those who took our kids to camp this past week: Tracy Hudson, Amanda Barker, and Billy Wright.  Robin and I went up on Family Night the last day of camp and were able to spend some time seeing what the kids learned that week.  There were several decisions that we will be following up on and lots of good times had by our students.  I must tell you, I am impressed with the level of commitment to Christ of our kids.  They are being led by example each week by our leaders and it shows as you are around our kids for any length of time.  Thanks to our leaders!!!!

As always, my prayer is that we would all Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the Word of truth.”    II Timothy 2:15.
