From Your Pastor's Heart - May 1, 2016

Good Morning!

Tomorrow is First Baptist Church Founders’ Day!   Last year on the first Sunday in May, we celebrated our 50th anniversary of our founding as a mission church here in Cape Fair.  On May 2, 1965, the first service was held in the little storefront “giraffe rock” building that still stands next to Miss Belinda’s Salon.  Eleven people were there that morning and so began our story up till today.

Last year we asked ourselves:  What have we done with the legacy left behind of Perry and Imogene Keithley to whom the Lord gave the vision of this work here in this community so many years ago on December 6, 1964.  From vision to first service was a short five months and what was known as Cape Fair Baptist Mission has been meeting weekly ever since.

Even though our name was changed to First Baptist Church, I believe Cape Fair Baptist Mission is still very appropriate for what we are called to do.  Is not every church to be “on mission” for Christ.  The Gospel is our mission and the field of souls around this community in these mountains is our “Jerusalem”.

Today in our message, we are going to see how we, as the church, are the ones to whom God has entrusted the Glorious Gospel.  In connection with our Sunday night study in Revelation; we are seeing also in the passage this morning from Romans chapter 10, the rejection of the Gospel by Israel as a nation.  In turn, the Lord gave the mission of spreading the “promised seed of Abraham” to the church.

The Church does not replace Israel.  The Church is the messenger during this time in history from Christ until the Rapture. But, in Revelation, we observe God move again in the life of Israel as a nation in the last days in preparation for the coming of Antichrist.  At that time, there will be a major move of God in calling 144,000 from the Jewish people to be the bearers of the Gospel to a world in complete turmoil during the Great Tribulation.   Make it a point to join us in this adventure of studying the Book of Revelation on Sundays at 6:30pm

As always, my prayer is that we would all, “Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the Word of truth.”  II Timothy 2:15

Humbly Yours,

Bro Steve
