From Your Pastor's Heart - April 24, 2016

Good Morning!

Family.  It is the bedrock of civilization.  It is the institution that God established in the Garden of Eden.  It is also a term used in Scriptures for the church.  Ephesians chapter 3 says...

14 For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, 15 from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, 16 that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, 17 that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height— 19 to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.

I included the whole context to show that saying we are truly family here at FBCCF is not just a slogan.  There is so much here in this passage, but I wanted to address this subject quickly this morning, as I read an article this week by a “pastor/blogger” (I use the term loosely) that claimed we should avoid the use of the word family when referring to church.  The internet is loaded with “experts” you know.

I saw the title “Quit Thinking of the Church as Family” and had to read it; as ridiculous as it was.  I don’t have time to go into his thought process, nor do I understand it; other than he may just spend a little too much time pouring over politically correct semantics than actually reading the Bible.  All I know is that if we begin to chip away at clearly taught doctrine by refraining from using and teaching foundational Biblical concepts, then we no longer are a local church, but a club or social group.  But, that’s what the world does though, isn’t it?  Chip away at what constitutes gender, what constitutes family, what constitutes the goes on and on.

There is not a week that goes by where we are not thankful for the FAMILY of God here.  We have been tested and continue to walk by faith day by day as we see God continue to unfold His plans for His ministry here.  We see this as we stand by each other and walk with each other through our individual challenges and as we pray for one another and support one another in word and deed.  Let no one tell you any different; even an “expert” on the internet.

If there ever was an example of a local church embodying the concept and truth of being family, it is FBCCF.  We are the children of God.  He is our Father.  We are adopted into His family.  We are joint heirs with Christ.  Even the angels are called our fellow servants in Revelation 19:10.

As always, my prayer is that we would all, “Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the Word of truth.”  II Timothy 2:15

Humbly Yours,

Bro Steve
