From Your Pastor's Heart - April 3, 2016

Good Morning!

Welcome to April!   To quote the famous Theologian Al Jolson:

Life is not a highway strewn with flowers, Still it holds a goodly share of bliss,
When the sun gives way to April showers, Here is the point you should never miss.

Though April showers may come your way, They bring the flowers that bloom in May.
So if it's raining, have no regrets, Because it isn't raining rain, you know,
(It's raining violets,)
And where you see clouds upon the hills, You soon will see crowds of daffodils,
So keep on looking for a blue bird, And list'ning for his song, Whenever April showers come along.

This song is not about positive thinking.  There is truth here.  Every time April rolls around, I think of that song.  I think of it because my dad could do the meanest Al Jolson impersonation ever and this was one of his favorite songs to sing when I was upset about how something was going as a child.  Today, we are going to be looking at the rest of Romans chapter 9.  In it, we see God’s love and mercy, His justice and glory.  In connection with that, we will see our response to those things and what He requires of us.

God does not call us to figure it all out all of the time.  However, He does require us to trust Him at all times.  I don’t know how He is able to weave everything together for our good and His glory, but He does without fail.  So, we can be confident, if we are his child, that He will take showers that may lead to floods in our lives and turn them into flowers for His glory eventually.  It may be on the other side, but we will bask in that glory because, as we will see at the end of our scripture passage today, He can never and will never disappoint us.

As always, my prayer is that we would all, “Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the Word of truth.”  II Timothy 2:15

Humbly Yours,

Bro Steve
