From Your Pastor's Heart - August 23, 2015

Good Morning Family,

Today, we welcome The Texans to our service this morning to lead us in music and ministry.  It is indeed a pleasure to have them with us here in Cape Fair.  I trust the Lord will encourage your heart and challenge you through their ministry in the Gospel.  There will be a love offering taken this morning for their unique ministry.

I am going to write a letter very similar to this letter you have in your hands this morning to our membership in the coming week or so that will more adequately explain the plan for FBCCF to help us get our monthly payment for the New Building/Property more manageable.  I am very certain the Lord would have us all go above and beyond what we think we can do and allow Him to give through us.  Remember, Robin and I are not asking you to do anything we are not willing to do ourselves.  Here is the idea in a nutshell:

Our monthly payment on our new building and property out front along the highway is $1266 per month.  It is a 10 year note with a balance amount as of this September of $109,987.  At the original time of the church taking on the responsibility, monthly donations were made by members to the designated account “New Building Fund” to make the payment.  This kept the payment out of the General Operating Budget of the church’s ministry efforts.  It was not long though until the payment was added to the church General Operating Budget and the payment was no longer made by the extra effort of giving to the New Building Fund.

That change has taken a huge toll on where we stand in our General Operating Budget to date.  As you know I have only been here a year and a half and so being new, I did not want to just rush in and change things especially in the area of finances.  I did not want to appear presumptuous as I knew I needed to build trust with you that we are here for the long haul and are standing alongside you in all we do for the Lord.  Several years ago, as soon as the payment for the building had been rolled back into the operating budget, our budget began to be drained by approximately that amount monthly.  In a little over two years, we have gone from around a $30,000 balance in our operating budget to a balance of only a little over $1000 as of the end of last month.  That trend is unsustainable and will be in the red in very, very short order unless we act now.

If you get the balance sheet at the end of the month and look at it, you can clearly see this trend.  This reduction of the operating budget is not because we are spending too much in ministry, at all.  You all are doing quite well with keeping a tight string on spending.  The budget buster is the New Building payment that was never intended to be a part of the church operating budget, but was to be paid by commitments by God’s people outside of giving to the budget.  If that payment is returned to its original placement, outside the budget, then we would see our operating budget begin to heal dramatically and ministries could flourish into new areas.

Here is my challenge and encouragement, as your shepherd, to help us be better stewards of the budget with which God has blessed us:

The Lord blessed this church, before we came, to have the foresight to rebuild in an economical fashion after the devastating loss of the old Sanctuary to structural damage; and the foresight to pay for it outside of the operating budget.  We can get this New Building payment out of the budget by 28 individuals or combinations of individuals making a commitment to give $45 monthly in addition to your regular giving.  Two of you might go together to take one rock or there might be a few of us might possibly be able to take two rocks.  Either way, not equal gifts, but equal sacrifice is the guiding principle.

28 rocks at $45 =  $1260     As of last Sunday the 16th, we have 20 rocks remaining to be adopted.

You would decide when during the month that you would give your committed amount.  Our family has to do some rearranging and prioritizing ourselves in our family’s budget to fulfill our commitment to the New Building Fund.  But, I am confident in the Lord to help us do what we know needs to be done to further honor Him in our giving.  When you give your commitment toward this effort, it should be designated on the envelope “NEW BUILDING FUND”.

As I have stated to you before, I do not enjoy speaking on the topic of finances and have only given two sermons on the matter out of over 225 sermons and Bible studies I have led for us here at FBCCF so far.  That said, I believe that giving to the Lord’s work is a very private matter, so that is I why I have utilized rocks instead of us “signing up” to accomplish this goal together.  God has called me to lead by example and so you need to know we are committed to this task with you and have selected our family rock.

I boldly ask you to join us in this adventure and I believe with all of my heart that God will bless this effort in ways we cannot see right now.  This is a real step in faith to return to the original plan of fulfilling the commitment to rebuild here in Cape Fair.

This church is a very special place that the Lord has used and is continuing to use to be a shepherd to this area to the many who are believers and to the many who are yet to come to Christ.  That is our mission.  Preach the Gospel clearly and plainly and disciple believers.  I believe our commitment to the Gospel is pleasing to the Lord and our commitment to taking our rock of rebuilding will bring glory to His name as He does through us what we sometimes think cannot be done.

As always, my prayer is that we would all Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the Word of truth.”    II Timothy 2:15.

Humbly Yours,

Bro Steve
