From Your Pastor’s Heart - February 15, 2015

Someone is Watching Out For You

Because we care for you and your family, myself and our deacons at FBCCF are committed to the Deacon Family Ministry Plan. We want to make certain that every member and family in our church experience the love and support of the whole congregation. We want to be known throughout our community as a loving and caring church.  Christ Himself said that is how we should be known.

What is the Deacon Family Ministry Plan? It is a plan through which the deacons join the pastor in ministering to the physical, spiritual, and emotional needs of each church member and family as they are able. The resident active church families and individuals have been divided into groups by our deacons. At our last deacon’s meeting, the men held a “draft” as we went through the membership roll and worked together to select the church families and individuals for each deacon.  Those members on our roll who are not normally active are being sent a letter asking them how we can minister to them and if they would like to participate in the ministry.

The word in the New Testament for deacon is “diakonos”.  The word literally means “servant or administrator for a master”.  Because of their commitment to serve Jesus, there are some specific ways your deacon wants to try to help you as well, as he is able

  • Being a lay minister to you. – The first visit will be to get acquainted with you and your family. However, your deacon will make other contacts with you as needs may arise in your family.
  • Being a friend. – Our deacons are men who deeply care about our church family and its welfare.
  • Being a support in times of crisis. – Sometimes your deacon can help you through a trying time by listening and giving support. Other times, your deacon will know someone else or engage additional assistance.
  • Being a resource. – Your deacon will try to help you if you have questions about your walk with Christ, our church, or helping you find a place of service in ministry at FBCCF by using your own unique spiritual gifts and God-given talents for the common good of the Body of Christ.
  • Being an encourager.  He will encourage you to participate in spiritual and social occasions when families in the church get together for Worship, study, or even fun and fellowship.
  • Being a prayer warrior for you. – Believing that you are important and believing in the power of prayer, your deacon will join with the pastor and other deacons in praying for you and each member of your family.

So, in the Deacon Family Ministry Plan, every active member and every family have a deacon. The more effectively the plan works in our church, the closer our church will come together in Christ. We have exceptional deacons at FBCCF, but they need your cooperation to help make the plan work. They can only know how to minister effectively, if they are aware of a need.  So remember, contact with your deacon is a two-way street.

One last thing, as you look at the list above regarding what your deacon is going to try to be for you, know that you are minister for Christ as well.  There are times your deacon may need ministry from you.  Encourage and be a minister to them as they do the same for you.

As always, my prayer is that we would all Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the Word of truth.”    II Timothy 2:15.

Humbly Yours,

Bro Steve
