From Your Pastor's Heart - February 25, 2018

Good Morning Family!

I usually write what is going on in my mind and heart in these “pastor letters” each week.  I know the Lord gives us a peace that passes understanding in the midst of times of trial.  It is also possible to have that peace and be deeply concerned about the direction of our world and the grip that the prince of darkness has on it.  We know Satan is a defeated foe, but the carnage and collateral damage along the way can, at times make us shake our heads in disbelief.

The last couple of weeks of world events have been simply mind-numbing to say the least.   I believe we can give our “thoughts and prayers” to the victims’ families of the school shooting in Florida.  Don’t let anyone tell you any different.  There is a movement going on that is saying that “thoughts and prayers” aren’t enough.  We know that our God can do anything and so I believe that our thoughts and prayers must include comfort for and truth to those left behind.  However, our prayers should also be, at the same time, extended for wisdom for our elected representatives in government.

I pray for the Lord to help us all come to find a way to address this growing problem in a sensible and God-honoring way.  The growing issue of violence in our movies, TV, and video games directed at a young audience is now coming back to haunt us in a major way.  Our culture has become obsessed with the next video game that is released nearly weekly in which the main objective in order to win is scoring a high body count.  Desensitization is the operative word.  I believe the promotion of senseless violence in media is where the discussion must start.

I am still not ready to give up on America yet.  I pray for common sense, common ground, and civility.  It is in the extremes where solutions will not be found.

We also extend our prayers for the family of Dr. Billy Graham.  We have been blessed by his ministry around the world for the past 70 years.

As always, my prayer is that we would all, “Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the Word of truth.”                          II Timothy 2:15

Humbly Yours,

Bro. Steve
