From Your Pastor’s Heart - March 12, 2017

Good Morning Family!

There is a danger with studying the Word of God.  I’ll bet you didn’t think it was dangerous.  One of the “dangers” is kind of tongue in cheek: it just might change your life.

But, there is another danger not that resides in the Word itself, but within us.  We can read it, study it, memorize it, and even teach it; and not allow it to change us.  That is a huge risk.

I can know principles of God’s Word, yet not allow them to influence my principles.  In fact, God’s principles are not there to influence or even guide mine; there are there to replace mine.  The Scripture says that we are to renew our mind.

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.                          Romans 12:1-2

The fourth word in those verses is the key word for the point I am trying to make today: “therefore”.  Paul in the chapter right before this is telling of the wonder of God’s salvation and promises.  Then, he doesn’t request.  He doesn’t suggest.  He pleads with his brothers and sisters in Christ...”I beseech you, because of what I have just told you...”  Therein, he tells of the danger of the Scriptures going through your ears and bouncing off your heart, not transforming you.  Yes, the Spirit is at work in the lives of all believers to do God’s will.  But, it is up to us to submit willingly to His crafting.

As always, my prayer is that we would all, “Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the Word of truth.” II Timothy 2:15

Humbly Yours,

Bro Steve
