From Your Pastor's Heart - October 4, 2015

Greetings Family!

What a week in the news it has been!  Although my letter to you is not, primarily, a news bulletin; we have seen heartbreak, violence, and international shifts in power just this past seven days alone.  Another campus shooting in a “gun-free zone” and now Russia and Iran literally and militarily moving the U.S. out of the way in the Middle East are among the concerns just last week.

Closer to home last Sunday, I spoke about strange widespread doctrinal shifts within the Southern Baptist Convention, of which we presently and voluntarily support with our missions dollars from our budget.  I want to be sure that all of us understand the issues to which I spoke.  So, please be certain to personally ask me regarding anything that you heard last week on Sunday morning.  I want you to be informed as we move forward as a church body in prayer for direction from the Lord as to our Biblical response as the local Baptist expression of the Body of Christ in Cape Fair.

What I do not want is for concerns about the SBC denomination’s direction to continually force FBC to shift our attention toward trying to address concerns about those in leadership and the denominational entities’ directions over which we have little real influence and detract from our work in the Gospel.  Here is our local church mission: to be continually focused on the mission the Lord has given to us here in our community and to fully support the Lord’s work in sound Biblical ways around the world.  Prayerfully, we want our missions budget to reflect that purpose.

That is why I am asking you to focus in prayer about our response to the direction of the Southern Baptist Convention leadership and entities utilizing our dollars which we allocate to them out of our church budget at present.  I want to make certain our missions dollars that should not stay here in Cape Fair are being used Biblically and for the glory of God to spread the Gospel.

In time, I believe the Lord will direct us as His Body as to His course of action.  I am truly not certain, exactly what that is as of yet.  Please covenant to pray with me.  We must work through these times together, every one of us; as we look for “the Blessed Hope and glorious appearing of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ”!

As always, my prayer is that we would all “Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”  II Timothy 2:15

Humbly Yours,

Bro Steve
