From Your Pastor's Heart - September 27, 2015

Greetings Family!

I begin with two definitions from the original Webster’s 1828 Dictionary:

1. A man employed in tending, feeding and guarding sheep in the pasture.

PASTOR, noun [Latin from pasco, pastum, to feed.]

1. A shepherd; one that has the care of flocks and herds.

2. A minister of the gospel who has the charge of a church and congregation, whose duty is to watch over the people of his charge, and instruct them in the sacred doctrines of the Christian religion.

As of the time of this writing of this letter to you (very early Friday morning), I plan on tackling a very difficult issue during our service this morning.  I would ask you to be very attentive, as you always are; as I feel the Scriptures are very clear regarding the subject matter.

It is my calling to feed and tend, but to also protect you and that is what I intend to do today.  I care deeply about you, my family, and so I will attempt as concisely and specifically as possible share with you my heart, based firmly upon only the Word of God about some dangerous doctrinal patterns converging in our day.

Paul told Timothy in his first letter 3:13-15:

13 But evil men and impostors will grow worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived. 14 But you must continue in the things which you have learned and been assured of, knowing from whom you have learned them, 15 and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

Today, I believe will be a time of encouragement above all; encouragement that we stay true to the Bible as the all-sufficient, inspired, infallible, and only Word of God.  Hang with me closely today as we navigate some challenging rapids together.

As always, my prayer is that we would all “Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”    II Timothy 2:15.

Humbly Yours,

Bro Steve
