From Your Pastor's Heart - September 4, 2016

Good Morning Family,

Ahhhh... I like getting into the months with "ember" and "ober" in the name! This is my favorite time of the year! Labor Day Weekend is kind of the official end to summer. I know school has already started, but this weekend is the "last hurrah" for many people and their summer time vacations and activities.

Lots of families choose this weekend to get together and so in light of that, we will only have services this morning and give you the option to visit with family and friends tonight as we will not have a service this evening. Usually, I write on Friday or Saturday for the Sunday bulletin in which my letter appears, however I am writing to you a little earlier this time. It is Monday, August 29 as I write. I know I have a very full week and thought I would share a little something with you today that was on my heart.

As we have been studying the book of Revelation on Sunday nights, a thought occurred to me this morning. So, here is the set up: sometimes I must admit that I listen to Christmas music at other times of the year when I get a hankering for a little holiday boost along the way. After all isn’t the incarnation of Christ something that should be celebrated at any time and not just at Christmas?

So, this morning I hear Johnny Mathis singing "O Holy Night" on my device. I start thinking of hearing that particular recording as a kid and remembering how sweet of a time Christmas can be when thinking of family, and the reality of Jesus coming to earth to bring salvation for us all. So, next thing I know, I’ve got tears in my eyes from the joy of that feeling. You know how a song can bring back a memory, right? So, then my mind goes to thinking about our study in Revelation last night.

So, at that moment several thoughts converge all together in my spirit. First, the reality of "O Holy Night" meets the feeling of Christmas in my heart meets the thought of that I actually will one day be in the presence of the One about whom the song was written. Those thoughts all combined culminate in the reality that we will one day hear actual heavenly music about Christ, beyond our wildest imaginations and more beautiful than any Christmas song ever written on earth! Even the music to Handel’s "Hallelujah Chorus" will sound like "Row, Row, Row Your Boat" compared to the heavenly strains with which we will be accompanied as we sing those exact words as Scriptures tells us we will in Revelation chapter 11. Just a thought for you this week as we sings psalms, and hymns, and spiritual songs; making melody in our hearts to the Lord this week!

As always, my prayer is for you to, "Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the Word of truth." II Timothy 2:15

Humbly Yours,

Bro. Steve
