Good Morning Family!
As I write this letter, it is Wednesday afternoon, January 8th. At this point, we shall see if the Winter Storm Watch will pan out on Thursday into Friday. I really think if we were to run a popularity poll at FBCCF on snow, the vote would be at about 50% per side. However, since kids’ votes and “kid at heart” votes count for double, then I think we would be looking at a little more lopsided vote count coming down on the side of snow.
I think deep down, each one of us, if we were to take having to walk, shovel, and travel out of the scenario, I think all of us are amazed at how beautiful a good snow can be. Snow covers up all of the deadness of winter. (Although I do love the bare trees look.) Snow makes all of the landscape look smooth and even. Sometimes you can’t tell the road from the grass, which isn’t always a good thing.
A good wet or sticky powdery snow when it lays on every branch of the trees enables us to see the intricacy of God’s artwork in crafting a tree. Seeing the forest with every branch outlined in white is one of the more beautiful sights here in the Ozarks.
Isaiah 1:18 reminds us, “Come now, let us reason together", says the Lord: "though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow;
though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool." As wonderful as the Lord’s control over the weather is, His power to forgive is even more impressive. He can take a wrong and cover it completely. He can take our sin, forgive it and exchange what is crimson red and deadly for beautiful lamb’s wool. What a picture the Word paints for us of His lovingkindness!
As always, my prayer is that we would all, “Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the Word of truth.” II Timothy 2:15
